Yin & Sound

John Guinta is a recording artist and musical performer who specializes in music for yoga and relaxation. His ambient sound weaving creates a rich gumbo of soothing comfort.

Retired from a career as an air traffic controller John is familiar with stress and the human condition. Also a certified reflexologist and LMT, John has spent a number of years helping bring people closer to homeostasis.

John believes in the power of music as a universal tool for healing. He has taken his sound into the hospital settings and hospice, where it is well received. His rhythmic melodies, expressed on handpans and electric kalimbas, add just the right tempo to a yoga class or relaxation session. This music induces relaxation and helps stress wash away.

Originally from New Orleans, he has lived in FL for 30+years, currently residing in the city of Jacksonville. Traveling regularly, John's travels have led him to performance opportunities as far west as AZ and up the east coast to NY He plays regularly in Jacksonville, FL, and monthly in the New Orleans area.

John plays by donation, so any contribution to support the art is appreciated. You can learn more about his travels or schedule on Facebook: John Guinta

Hurricane Harvey Relief

Undies for Everyone is a non profit organization accepting donations to help people affected by hurricane Harvey. Clean underwear is something we all take for granted, until we don't have it. Normally a non-profit dedicated to supporting Houston and Dallas area schools and shelters with new underwear for youths in need, they have expanded to help provide for and support all youths affected by the recent hurricanes. As of September 11th, they have collected and distributed 300,650 pairs of brand new underwear to people in need of all ages.

Imagine losing your entire home and way of life, then having no clean undergarments to wear less than a day or two later, and no way to clean them - this is just one of the unspoken numerous problems that people in disaster situations go through on a daily basis. This organization does incredibly important and often overlooked work and unlike national level charities with huge budgets and staff overhead, they are located nearby affected disaster areas and exist almost entirely of volunteers.

Want to help in unique and much needed way?  Please join us for a donation based class this Saturday, 9/16 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.  Experience a unique and invigoration class encompassing an hour vinyasa-flow practice followed by 30 minutes of blissful restorative yoga.  This playful and centering class will be taught by three of Hudson River Yoga's own teachers, Teri Newman 200-RYT, Theresa Skelly 200-RYT and Nick Middlebrook 200-RYT.  Three teachers means three times the individual attention and alignment assists to help you find a greater depth and stillness in the pose, as well as a greater depth of release in restorative poses!

Please join us to help raise money for a great cause, we hope to see you there!

Monkeys, Marvels and Mystics, Oh My!

Sure practicing yoga poses can make us flexible, strong, calm, and healthy - all good things. What separates yoga from just exercise is the ability of this practice to expand our minds as we train our bodies.

Using mythology as our base, this workshop will explore how yoga asana practice translates universal, intangible ideas into physical expressions which resonate much deeper than the muscles, joints, and bones used to create them.

Our exploration will find modern relevance in stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata, The Bhagavad Gita, The Yoga Sutras, and The Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Bring a notebook and your mat - This workshop focuses on discussion, yet we may just find ourselves expressing poses from these stories.

Ronald Hayes, MFA, is an author and educator. His 2014 book, Gems on a String, combines reflections on his yoga practice with interpretations of the world's oldest epic poem, Ramayana.

Help For Harvey

Imagine if raging winds and rising flood waters separated you from your beloved dog or cat. That very nightmare has been unfolding over and over again for days in Houston and surrounding areas. Tropical Storm Harvey has displaced thousands of animals whose owners were unable to get to them in time, and local animal shelters are taking in more animals every day. The costs are overwhelming and are likely to continue to rise--as flood waters recede, more animals will emerge from hiding in desperate need of care.
Want to help? We do too. Please join us for a donation-based vinyasa class this coming Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. to benefit the SPCA of Texas. Longtime HRY teacher Monique Dauphin will lead us through a vigorous flow practice, followed by cool-down and deep relaxation. Some experience will flow-based yoga is recommended, but you will be encouraged to modify for your level. We suggest a donation of $20, and only cash or checks made out to the SPCA of Texas will be accepted. We can't wait to see you there!

A Healing Journey

A Healing Journey is a Yin and Restorative Yoga workshop with healing Reiki in memory of Jill Meltzer. This is by donation (cash or check please), and all the proceeds will go to Grace Smith House in Poughkeepsie.

The practice of Yoga, Meditation and Reiki were very important to Jill, and by participating in this workshop and fundraiser we will all be honoring her memory.

Susannah will guide you into deep relaxing Yin and Restorative poses while Alison will share the healing touch of Reiki with each individual, offering emotional and physical renewal, as the group is also immersed in the flow of Reiki energy. Guided visualizations and meditations are shared to help quiet the mind and deepen your connection to the healing energies within.

Come be still and allow yourself to stop and be fully supported by two caring teachers. Leave with a deep sense of peace and connection to your heart and the natural flow of your body's life force.

Play Shop

It's your favorite yoga class and the teacher is guiding toward a peak pose, one you've been wanting to try for months! You eagerly get your "oomph" ready, give it a few tries, and just when the breath and body start to align and the pose begins to make sense, the class moves on to something else (much to your dismay!) and it's time for Savasana.
In this "workshop," we'll playfully dig in to poses you like and want to try...be it a deeper bind, a balance or an inversion...in a relaxed environment, over the span of two and a half hours, so you'll have just the time you need to put the pose-puzzle together for yourself. Questions and open dialogue are encouraged, and students will be taught to work together to provide assists and support. It's designed to be organic and fluid, fun and informational. And, ALL about PLAY!
